Beauty of the week ***ROCHELLE AYTES***

You may remember Rochelle if you are a fan of Tyler Perry’s movies. She played the role of the beautiful fiance of very handsome Blair Underwood in Madea’s family Reunion. She also did a lot of commercials for L’Oreal, Coca-Cola, Mc Donalds and Mercedes Benz.

Her look on this picture is very soft and yet, looks very glamour…Here is how you could do this at home:

Lauren London & Gabrielle Union “Miss Independent”

I have been watching over and over again for the last 2 weeks Neyo new video “Miss Independent”. The song itself is beautiful but the women in the video are even more beautiful. Gabrielle Union and Lauren London are the 2 main characters in the video and they looked pretty from head to toes.

Gabrielle Union’s makeup and hair were very pretty and classy (I’m loving her coat on this pic!!!). She was wearing a very neutral lip color (ssugestion:Spirit lipstick from MAC) with a natural blush color (suggestion: blunt from MAC). Her eyes didn’t look to made up, I would just use a black liner and smudge it up to the crease line and under the innder eye rim. Add some false eyelashes with a thickenning mascara (Lancome Fatale) to finish this look.

Lauren London was cute and sexy as usual. She was wearing a very soft smokey eye and had neutral lips just like Gabrielle. Smokey soft eyes and neautral lips seems to be the trend right now in most videos…

Check out the video…

Brandy’s Natural Makeup—Full moon Video—

A while ago, I received a request from one of my favorite Divas Amina to describe Brandy’s look in the “full Moon” video. I totally forgot to do it and only remembered today as I heard the song on the radio.

Indeed, her makeup looks flawless! Brandy is not the cutest girl but she always looks on point (makeup wise at least). I also love this song in particular…

So here is how I will replicate her beautiful natural look:

Beauty of the week ***WARIS DIRIE***

I was sitting in my living room watching a documentary on female genital mutilation in Africa  and thought about all the women that went through that sad and barbaric experience. Among them is Waris Dirie, a Somalian model who gained international fame as a model posing in Chanel ads and acting in the 1987 James Bond movie “The Living Daylights” before launching her campaign against female genital mutilation in 1996. She shocked the world with a best-selling book “Desert Flower” that described how her genitals were sliced off with a dirty razor blade without anesthesia, and then stitched together. (Source)

She recently made headlines when she vanished for 3 days in Brussels, Belgium. She was found alive on Friday, March 7, 2008 by a plainclothes Brussels policeman, in the presence of a local window cleaner. He told press, that the couple met in a pub and were planning to spend dinner together. Dirie could not give an explanation over what happened, and only said that she was lost, and couldn’t find her way back to her hotel. Since she had no money on her, she had been sleeping in hotel lobbies. Afterwards, she declared that she was kidnapped for two days by a taxi driver and the story of having been lost was to keep the press from asking her too many questions. (source)

I am not a big fan of her eye makeup on this picture but really like how her skin is flawless.

To replicate her look, I would slightly change the way her eye makeup was done using a combination of grey smokey eye shadows.

Beauty of the Week ***GENEVIEVE NNAJI***

So I have been sitting around all weekend watching Nigerian and Ghanean movies instead of running some “very important” errands…I went to my local African market and decided to buy a few movies where Van Vicker a.k.a “Eva’s Husband” :)  was playing. I am sooo happy that I bought BROKEN TEARS and RIVER OF TEARS because that’s how I discovered the beautiful Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji. She is just simply naturally beautiful! She did not have too much makeup in the movie and you could see that she is a true African Beauty! She is also a great actress and I have to admit that I like her waaaayyy better than Nadia Buari (who is also a great actress).

Here is a short bio from Wikipedia about the actress:

Genevieve Nnaji (born May 03, 1979) is a popular Nigerian actress from the Mbaise region of Imo State, Nigeria. Genevieve found mainstream success in Nollywood, Nigeria’s movie industry’s nickname, in 2001, and has consistently added accolades, such as singer, producer to her resume. In 2004 she became the face for Lux soap in a highly lucrative sponsorship deal. Among other actors and actresses, she released her first album, titled No More, in 2005, following a one year acting ban in Nigeria.

2008 BET Awards ***Beauties***

So I missed the show last night because I was enjoying some lamb chops at a brazilian restaurant for my sister birthday. We had such a delightful evening that I would not trade it for the world…

I was looking at the red carpet pictures this morning and realized that black beauty is really unique as I was able to see beauty in each and every celebrity…yes…even Lil Kim :-)

I am posting the pics starting with the most beautiful faces…

My girl Rihanna had to be first of course!!! She is just a natural beauty and her makeup looked flawless as usual! I am loving the purple/plum lipstick on her…will let you know the closest macth to this color. I am not sure I’m feeling her dress though…

Nia Long: I actually wanted to put her up as my beauty of the week! I just find her so cute and love the almond shapes of her eyes and her flawless black skin. I also think she was one of the best dressed on the red carpet…

Cassie (aka. PDiddy’s rumored boo): She is a very pretty girl that does not need a lot of makeup to enhance her beauty…Her lil pink dress did not make it for me…way too simple for the occasion…

Alicia Keys: Always looks pretty to me! But something was a li ttle off about her make-up this time…something about the glitter eyeliner that I just don’t like on this pic…maybe the way it was applied?!? Her lil pink dress looked cute…loving the pumps!

Gabrielle Union: I just loooove Gaby! I think she is one of the cutest, not to say most beautiful, black actresses today. I just love her little smile …I have been told a few times that we look alike (yes I was!) and it did wonders for my self-esteem… :) although I outweigh her in the cheek and pound department. :-)

Jennifer Hudson: I like her hair cut and the makeup looks fresh and simple. However, does she always have push/pull up her boobs in every outfit she wears…still love her though…

Lil Kim: I had to put her up on my list of beauties just for MIMI!!! :) She does not look that bad here…actually I think she even looks pretty scary classy…

So who was your favorite?

Tamara Mowry sun-kissed Look

From Koshonna:

Hey Eva,

I’ve been looking all day and I can’t seem to find any celebrity pictures large enough with the green/brown look I wanted to create online. I’m really sorry. I did find a picture of Tamara Mowry and I wanted to know how to create her sun-kissed summer look. I have a MAC bronzer in Golden. At times I feel that it might be either too light or there is not enough sparkle because I don’t see much difference. I’ve thought about getting a melon blush and thought this might give me the look I was going for but I don’t know. I’m around the same color as Tamara and I wear NC45.

Thanks!!!!

Koshonna

Many of you have asked me how they could get that sun-kissed look on their face for the summer. The first thing about having a glowy skin like this is making sure that your skin is very healthy and does not have any pimples as shimmer will only accentuate them. Once you have your summer skincare regiment (which I will detail for you in another post), here is how you can achieve Tamara’s look:

ALL MAC UNLESS SPECIFIED

FACE

Foundation: Mix MAC Strobe Cream with MAC liquid mineralized satin finish in a small container and apply the mix as your foundation (be careful if you have oily skin as you may be shiny, this is best used at night)

Blush: Gingerly (on the apple of the cheeks)

Bronzer: If you have Tamara’s complexion, MAC Refined Deeper Bronze (under the apple of your cheeks as a countour). You can add a lil bit on your T-zone as well if you really want that bronzy look. Remember that your foundation is already shimmery…

EYES

Eyebrows: Fill them in very softly with Espresso eyeshadow or if you want a more precise line, use Spiked pencil

Eye base: Cream color base in Bronze

Eyelid: Patina

Eyecrease: Neo Sci-fi Bronzescape ***NEW***

Eyeliner: Fluidline in Black and blactrack pencil

Lashes: Mascara LANCOME Definicils

Beauty of the week: ***JENNIFER HUDSON***

Sorry Divas…I haven’t put a beauty of the week for weeks but we are baaaack!

I was sure that I was going to have Jennifer Hudson as my beauty of the week for 2 reasons: she has an exceptional voice  but she is also a natural black beauty. I went to see Sex and the City two weeks ago with my girls and I just found her makeup flawless in the movie. It was not too much…not too natural…just on point.

Before detailing Jennifer’s makeup, I need to tell you how I was sooo happy about seeing Carrie and Big on the big screen! The movie itself was PHENOMENAL I should say! I didn’t expect it to be that good but I was amazingly surprised on how they were able to turn out the show in such a good movie. All hail SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) and amazing shoes (Manolo Bs! Nothing but the best!!!)! Still love Christian Louboutin of course. Samantha’s dresses were just to die for! Make sure you rush to the movies if you have not seen it yet!

Oh noooo!!! Ashanti!!!

I just came accross this picture of the RNB Diva (if that’s ok with you, I would like to call her that…) and thought I need to WARN you: That much color is NOT good!!!

Ashanti is a cute girl but this time, she overdid it with the blue on the eyes and the bright pink on the lips. The bronzer is also waaaayyy tooo heavy! She needs to fire her MUA…really…

She could have gotten away with the blue eyes with a neutral lip or with the pink lips with a more bronzy-neutral eye. Makeup is all about balancing…you want the focus to either be on your eyes or your lips…not both…so Divas, please learn from Ashanti’s mistake next time you decide to go Crazy In Color…
