As I was flipping the pages of Miss Ebene Magazine (a very popular publication for WOC) yesterday, I was stunned by the beauty of the models’ makeup. So I went behind my computer and tried to research who was the talented makeup artist behind these beautiful faces and the name HAYDEE FERREIRA popped out. She is from Guinea Bissau in West Africa (not far from my homecountry Senegal).I love the detail of her makeup and the way she combines and plays with colors. She is definately one of the best on my list (as I do not proclaim to be the best myself…lol) Check out her work on Yaye Marie’s blog (great website for African women that shows how talented we all are!!!)

Je feuilletaisles pages de Miss Ebene hier (un magazine très populaire pour les femmes noires), j’ai été émerveillée par le beau maquillage des modèles.
Je suis donc allée faire des recherches sur la toile afin de découvrir qui etait la créatrice de ces Chefs d’œuvre de beauté et je suis tombée sur le nom de HAYDEE FERREIRA . Elle est de la Guinée Bissau en Afrique d’ouest (pas loin de mon pays le Sénégal). La précision de son maquillage et son jeu de couleurs ressortent d’une façon admirable sur les visages. I have been watching over and over again for the last 2 weeks Neyo new video “Miss Independent”. The song itself is beautiful but the women in the video are even more beautiful. Gabrielle Union and Lauren London are the 2 main characters in the video and they looked pretty from head to toes.
Je n’ai pas cessé de regarder ces 2 dernières semaines le nouveau clip de Neyo « Miss Independent ». La chanson en elle-même est belle mais les femmes dans le clip sont d’une beauté époustouflante. Gabrielle Union et Lauren London sont les 2 principales actrices dans la vidéo et elles ont une beauté presque parfaite pour ne pas dire « totalement » parfaite…
Gabrielle Union’s makeup and hair were very pretty and classy (I’m loving her coat on this pic!!!). She was wearing a very neutral lip color (ssugestion:Spirit lipstick from MAC) with a natural blush color (suggestion: blunt from MAC). Her eyes didn’t look to made up, I would just use a black liner and smudge it up to the crease line and under the innder eye rim. Add some false eyelashes with a thickenning mascara (Lancome Fatale) to finish this look.
Gabrielle Union avait un maquillage tres naturel et une tres belle coiffure (j’aime également beaucoup sa veste sur cette photo !!!). Son rouge a lèvre est une couleur tres neutre (suggestion : Spirit de MAC) avec un fard a joue un peu comme un bronzant neutre (suggestion: Blunt de MAC). Son maquillage des yeux avait l’air d’être tres naturel. J’utiliserais juste un crayon Khôl noir le long de la ligne des cils en le mélangeant légèrement le long de la paupière. J’ajouterais quelques faux cils avec un mascara épaississant (Lancôme Fatale) pour finir ce look.
Lauren London was cute and sexy as usual. She was wearing a very soft smokey eye and had neutral lips just like Gabrielle. Smokey soft eyes and neautral lips seems to be the trend right now in most videos…

A while ago, I received a request from one of my favorite Divas Amina to describe Brandy’s look in the “full Moon” video. I totally forgot to do it and only remembered today as I heard the song on the radio.
Indeed, her makeup looks flawless! Brandy is not the cutest girl but she always looks on point (makeup wise at least). I also love this song in particular…
So here is how I will replicate her beautiful natural look:

FACE
Foundation: Studio fix liquid NW 45 (or whatever shade you wear)
Powder: I would use very lightly BOBBI BROWN face shimmer brick in Bronze with a buffer brush (MAC# 182)
Blush: Blunt
EYES
Base: Bronze color creme
Eyelid: NEO-SCI FI Time &space (all the way up to the crease)
Eyecrease: Brandy eyes are asian shaped, so she is not wearingany color in her crease
Highlighter: Unecessary for this look. You can always use a concealer a shade lighter than your complexion
Eyeliner: Boot black liquid liner on top and Feline or Blacktrack bottom
I have been thinking about writing a product review for Bobbi Brown bronzer in DEEP 4 ever since I bought it 2 months ago but just didn’t get a chance. The product is a lil bit expensive “$33” (compared with other brands) but it’s well worth the price!!! The color I picked is DEEP 4 (the darkest). I was looking for a totally matte bronzer with no shimmer at all and I can say that this one is the best out there for WOC! It’s not too brown, not too red and can be used as a blush as well. Do not over-do it if you plan on taking pictures as it may appear too red on the cam…
This is now officially my new bronzer/blush until I get tired of it…lol…

Ça fait un moment que je pense à écrire une critique sur la poudre bronzante de Bobbi Brown, couleur Deep 4 depuis que je l’ai achetée il y’a deux mois mais je n’ai juste pas eu un moment pour le faire.
Ce produit est un peu cher « $33 » (comparé aux autres marques) mais ilvaut bien son prix !!! La couleur que j’ai choisi est Deep 4(la plus foncée). Je cherchais une poudre bronzante aufini mat naturelet tout ce que je peux direc’est la meilleure sur le marché pour les femmes de couleur. Elle n’est ni trop brune, ni trop rouge et peut être aussi utilisée comme un fard à joues. Si vous comptez prendre des photos, n’en mettez pas trop comme elle peut apparaitre trop rouge sur la caméra….
Elle est officiellement ma nouvelle poudre soleil/fard à joues jusqu’ à ce que je m’en lasse….lol…

She was found alive on Friday, March 7, 2008 by a plainclothes Brussels policeman, in the presence of a local window cleaner. He told press, that the couple met in a pub and were planning to spend dinner together.Dirie could not give an explanation over what happened, and only said that she was lost, and couldn’t find her way back to her hotel. Since she had no money on her, she had been sleeping in hotel lobbies. I am soooo happy to tell you that I am back after being away for so many weeks…please forgive me! My life just took another EXCITING course and I have been sometimes so overwhelmed that I did not even have a minute to get behind a computer…
So here I am today in my beautiful home country Senegal! I came about a month ago, spent a week before flying out to the beautiful city of Abidjan in Ivory Coast where I spent 3 wonderful weeks…(see pics below taken with my girlfriend’s cam while we were on a beautiful yacht on “la baie des milliardaires”)I had sooo much fun and met so many wonderful people that I did not wanna leave…I postponed my departure 4 times until I was told that I was going to lose my ticket if I was not on flight by Aug 31st… L
I’m back to beautiful Dakar (not sooo beautiful because it has been raining ever since I got back) and can’t wait to share with you my new makeup up life savers now that I am in a tropical mode…
Clinique SPF 25 CITY BLOCK SHEER: At first I did not like the ashy look that it leaves on the skin but realized that it would be invisible with my regular face moisturizer on top. I use CLINIQUE dramatically different gel moisturizer as my everyday face lotion (it does not have an SPF so you will need that sunscreen if you are under the sun a lot).
MAC Mineralized skinfinish lose: This is by far the best powder on the market today!!! MAC just did wonders with this one! I was crazy about it when it first came out and love it even more now that I see how great it looks during the day and at night. I use it with MAC brush #150 for a soft look and with the sponge for a night look. It’s pretty hard to know which color you should get when you have a dark complexion…if you are usually a NW45, DEEP DARK is the best color. If you are NW 47 or higher, try DEEPER DARK. DARK will be more for a NC 45 OR C7…
BLOT POWDER: The whole time I have lived in DC, I never used my blot powder on a daily basis…never really felt the need as my skin is only oily on the T-zone. My first day in Dakar, I was sweating sooo much and could see my powder/foundation on the back of my hand everytime I would touch my face that I had to come to the conclusion that the BLOT POWDER was man best invention after the internet…seriously…now I have one blot powder in each and every bag that I carry (that’s because when I switch bags, I rarely empty them…only take my wallet and sunglasses)
AUTO-de-BLU Technakhol: This was the only eyeliner that I had during my trip to Abidjan as I forgot my usual graphblack or smolder…I just totally love it for 2 reasons: 1 it does not run and 2 the fact that the color is blue does not make your eye look to heavy for a day look. And at night it looks as good as a black liner. Try it with Christian Dior mascara Dior show in electric blue…you will make more than one fall with that look…
Now I can’t wait to get MAC new collections Starflash, luster twins, overrich…I should be receiving these by the end of next week (yes all the way down to Africa!!!) In the mean time, I will create new FOTD for you Divas…
